Triumph and Teamwork: Lucy’s Marathon Success for Livability

Triumph and Teamwork: Lucy’s Marathon Success for Livability

The streets of London echoed with cheers and applause, the finish line blurred with joyous tears – it had finally happened. After months of relentless training, I, Lucy, had completed the London Marathon. But beyond the personal victory, this marathon was about something bigger: supporting the incredible work of Livability.

Race Day Experience

The buzz in the air was electric; a vibrant community of runners united by a mixture of nerves and excitement. That energy carried me through the first few miles with surprising ease. Then came the challenge – those moments of doubt crept in. Yet the crowds lining the streets, shouting my name and that of Livability, were like a second wind.

One moment that really stands out is running past the Cutty Sark. It was a party atmosphere, a huge boost for everyone! Seeing so many people with disabilities participating, even those carrying fridges on their backs, filled me with inspiration.

The hardest stretch was definitely miles 19 to 23. I just put my head down and chanted “Don’t stop, don’t stop” with every step! Knowing I’d see my family at mile 24 kept me going – and seeing them was a massive lift. From there to the finish line was a pure celebration!

Crossing the Finish Line

That iconic finish line – a surreal moment of triumph that no one quite prepares you for! I burst into tears, a mix of exhaustion, disbelief, and overwhelming pride. I didn’t just finish a marathon, I helped make a real difference for Livability.

Fundraising Success

With your incredible generosity, we raised over £1,864 for Livability! The generosity of everyone was truly overwhelming. These funds will directly support people with disabilities. This is a testament to the power of our community coming together!

Reflecting on the Journey

Pushing through those long training runs, those moments of doubt…they all shaped this experience. The marathon wasn’t just a physical challenge, it taught me about the resilience we all possess within us. This journey has been as humbling as it was exhilarating. The structure of the training really helped, and I learned that a huge part of it is mental – trusting the process! I also realised anyone can do this, if I can, anyone can!

Looking Forward

Running has a grip on me now – in fact, I might have already applied for next year’s London Marathon ballot! One day I dream of the New York Marathon, but for now, shorter runs will keep me going.

Thank you to everyone who donated, cheered me on, and believed in me. This wasn’t my victory alone. I am truly grateful for all your support.

Conclusion

This marathon is proof of what we can accomplish when we work together. If you’re inspired, please consider supporting Livability. Every contribution helps create a more inclusive world for people with disabilities.
